The
Chamber Orchestra of the Young was established at the
Basic School of Arts Chotěboř in 1990, the core of which
had been composed of Ms. Věra Fialová´s violine pupils.Ms.
Fialová, too, is its conductor. The orchestra was
officially named the KOM Chotěboř (the COY Chotěboř),
having been a member of the YMCA in the Czech Republic
since 1998.
Currently, the orchestra has some twenty members. The
ensemble´s average age is very low, thus the repertoire
is selected with the due care so that even the youngest
players can be involved. In spite of the fact that the
structure of the orchestra is subject to yearly change
with the violinists-beginners coming, the body still
keeps its famed level. The fact itself can be proved by
a number of successful performances not only in the
region, but also in the more remote towns.
The
orchestra is the holder of some awards for both regional
and all-nation competitions. In the framework of the
radio competition of the Concerto Bohemia, the KOM had
made for the Czech Radio a couple of recordings , due to
which it took the third position in the competition. It
was the concert in the Valdstein Garden under the
auspices of Mr. Petr Pithart, the Speaker of the Senate
of the C.R., that became a great event for the
orchestra. In the years 1996, 2003, and 2006, the
orchestra gave their concerts in the Liverpool cathedral,
Liverpool and Chester schools, in the church of St. Anne
and in Christ Church during their one-week tours. When
the partnership ensemble from Liverpool was paying visit
to our country, our orchestra performed along with them
in some towns, too: Havlíčkův Brod, Proseč, Želiv, Brno,
Velehrad.
Surely
the greatest achievement ever has been the journey to
the 15th year of the „ Great Spiritual Music“ festival
in Rome, for which our orchestra had been chosen on the
strength of their first CD recording. The Festival was
held from Dec.18th, 2004 till Jan. 6th, 2005. The KOM
performed on Dec. 28th, 2004 in the church of SS. Biagi
e Carlo ai Catinari.
In 2004,
the orchestra made the CD called „Christmas Tunes as
Interpreted by the KOM Chotěboř“. Maestro Bohuslav
Matoušek, a famous Czech violinist native to
Havlíčkův Brod, became a godfather to the CD and patron
of the orchestra. He and the F.X. Šalda Theatre in
Liberec opera soloist Pavel Vančura (bass)
performed jointly with the KOM Chotěboř on Nov. 23rd,
2005 at a special concert given in honor of the15th
anniversary of the foundation of this body and at the
same time on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the
teaching career of the orchestra founder, its conductor
and art director, Ms. Věra Fialová. This concert
gave rise to another „live“ recording, a DVD-CD set.
